Day 51 (02/20)

so i had clinicals again i felt a lot better this time!!!

so first i went around the property cleaning up checking to see if there's any poop or pee and just making sure it looks good for our lovely clients. then i kind of just stood around until appointments started.

soooo idk there were a lot of appointments and 2 euthanasias. one of them was an emergency gorgeous white akita who's had seizures his whole life but this one was particularly bad. he came in strapped on a crash cart and his owner opted for euth. ever since angelo, euthanasias have been pretty emotional for me so i was relieved that the owner wouldn't be present during. she seemed pretty devastated considering she didn't want a private cremation nor a paw print. he went down really fast. as i was helping the tech with the body she asked me if i've ever worked at a hospital and i was like "no i've only worked at my clinicals" and she said she thought i was doing a really good job. wooooo. this helped with my freakout the other night

the other euth was a 15yr chihuahua pinscher mix thing who had trouble breathing through her nose (dogs are obligate nose-breathers) and was panting pretty hard obviously. upon examination there was a tumor in her nasal passage which explains the lopsidedness of her face, her right eye looked a lil bit like it was about to proptose, but the tumor was pushing it out. since the dog was 15 and the owners had denied biopsy before there wasn't much else we could do. the owners wanted to be present while it happened so i tried to look for something else i could do because i still can't do it. i ended up filling a medication for another doctor -_-

one of my faves was a mastiff who had gotten out of his owner's yard and was out for about 7 days until the shelter had picked him up and neutered him and made notes of the lacerations on his legs but didn't bother to suture them up while he was under??? that's silly. he didn't wanna walk so i had to keep encouraging him to get up and walk to his kennel. once he got in he fuckin peed all over the towel i set up for him, so i got him back out, changed his towel and cleaned the cage cause the pee splashed everywhere, and put him back in. he actually ended up peeing again later

my least fave was a bassett hound who needed an eye exam. he was drooling all down my hand while i was restraining and the tonometer wasn't working and the doctor tried like 10 times so my hand was soaked in drool once we were done. plus he smelled like he basically lived outside so i think that's what caused my allergies. he had gross dust and dandruff flying up my nose. the owner kept apologizing about how bad he smelled but by the time the exam was done it didn't matter because i couldn't smell anything because my nasal passages were fuckin blocked. we ended up referring him to an animal optometrist for an exam. :-/

i also helped with a TA for another bassett hound kinda i grabbed the dog from the lobby which i wasn't supposed to do on my own i guess but the tech told me to grab the dog on my own ugh!!! whatever but it was in for bloodwork for rimadyl and i ended up doing a jugular blood draw my first stick!!!!! which i'm super proud of because i haven't gotten a jug since i brought angelo to school.

anyways wow i did a lot more than i thought but yeah during my last hour they had a staff meeting that i stayed for where they talked about ~office business~ and pancreatitis and then i had to leave for school

at school we had a lecture from a government veterinarian who also happened to be our dean veterinarian's husband and he talked about antique large animal equipment and how to perform certain procedures. all the equipment smelled like a lone star restaurant (idk, that's what i associated it with) they were all old and rusty and i think they made my allergies worse.

omw home alex texted me that he was at spinns and invited me to meet up with him there and so i did, ordered a green chile cheeseburger which flippen fell apart :( and then we went home

i tried watching an episode of grey's with alex before i passed out.

xoxo
